Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works with NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She graduated with an Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing as a child in New York City. Mitchell joined KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. Mitchell joined CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She became a Washington general correspondent to NBC News two years later. In 1981 she began covering the White House. In 1988 she became the chief congressional reporter. She was made chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell hosted and participated as an expert panelist on the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist during the 1988 presidential debates between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in The John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her contribution to the cause of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan in office from 1981 to 1988. She covered many notable issues, such as the arms control, the budget tax and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended numerous summits in the company of President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
